Comments
Comments: 50 degrees in February with fog and drizzle, not ideal. We spiked up to lonesome lake in the balmy weather. Switched to snowshoes there as we started to post hole. Below lonesome lake was mobbed, above we only saw a few drenched souls. The trail above lonesome is riddled with postholes. We punched through numerous times even with our atlas 1230s. On kinsman ridge trail to cannonball Tom sunk into a nasty spruce trap up to his chest. Took 15 minutes to dig him out - only time the ice axe came off the pack, but it might have been useful for the icy stretches on cannon. Kinsman Ridge Trail up to cannon is steep, hard packed, but easy to punch through if you stray from the track. There are two icy stretches, one can be bypassed but the other is unavoidable. Up was ok, down required root hugging and tree grabbing. Thing will likely get slippier after the freeze tonight. I am curious about the conditions on hi-cannon, but we skipped it today.
