The beginning of the Mt. Roberts Trail has been rerouted around the expanded Castle stables operation since my last visit, with many new signs and diamond-shaped blazes throughout. I took the short 'whack that leaves from the utility path to the "Faraway Mtn." radio tower. That path leaves High Ridge Trail a little west of the Faraway Outlook, and the 'whack curls up to the lower bump at the south end of "Faraway ridge." There was once a carriage road to it, now so overgrown as to be practically imperceptible, and it seems to be the "Faraway Mtn." shown on some old maps.
The new Settlement Trail, which passes the cellar hole for the Roberts Homestead, eliminates the road-walk on Cold Spring Road that was once a part of this loop. |
