Comments
Comments: Day 2 of my Royce-Baldface almost loop brought my from the Blue Brook Tentsite back up to Rim Junction and onto the Basin Rim Trail. I was surprised to find two folks having breakfast at the Basin outlook but shortly after I had my own breakfast treat with the stiff climb up to Mount Meader. I forgot how much of a roller coaster the Meader Ridge Trail was: two or three times I thought this just HAD to be the last ascent to Eagle Crag but they weren't. When finally there I sat in solitude for a good 45 minutes and pressed on to North Baldface. Going in this direction there are a couple of spots that are challenging with a big pack...but it was worth it as I had that summit all to myself for nearly an hour. No sooner did I start descending when I hit the bubble of hikers going in the traditional clockwise loop - maybe 15-20 or so. Upon summiting South Baldface there were six folks also there at one time or another so pretty low key.

In the morning there was quite a bit of low valley fog and clouds which could be seen into Maine. High clouds kept the sun and temps at a comfy level especially when coupled with the breeze. Stunning views were still had for many miles from both North and South Baldface. I was expecting more folks around the Baldfaces today but the relative lack of traffic was OK by me....as was hiking in solitude until I got there.
