Comments
Comments: When I realized the sun was coming out I decided to hit a nearby 3k. Hitting the forest road at the crack of 10 am (thank you bryan for the starting point recommendation). I walked around the gate and the 420 sign is after the gate. I followed the road and I stayed on the left side of a grassy log landing area and found the road again nearly continuing straight across. I unwittingly went right at a fork in the road since I didn't realize the road continued straight/leftish. I went right up a steeper hill and up I went dead east, not the direction I wanted to go and it wasn't long before I crossed the road I should have taken in the first place. I started my bushwhack at the top and just went NE and tried to stay on the west side of ridge to the summit. For the Pemi these woods are mostly open, traveling through hardwoods and some spruce. I found a cross cut saw about elevation 2700'. Nearer the summit is gets steeper and the spruce thicker but as I said for the Pemi this was good woods. I found the recognized high point and the old notebook is missing but someone placed some paper and pencil in February. On the way back I went fully across the summit ridge and I found slightly more open woods higher on the ridge. I hit the road and followed it all the way out to the car and discovered my error, after the brush I needed to cross a small brook before heading steeper up hill--but no matter it was a nice way to get into the woods easily. I was puzzled by the lack of moose sign or for that matter any sign of animals, I saw one bird.
