Lots of water crossings on Moriah Brook Trail, but water was low today. All were dry rock hops except for Wild River. We brought Crocs. Water was just over knee deep this day, and it felt great in the 80-degree temps this afternoon. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Moriah Brook Trail is in good shape. Usual amount of branch debris for springtime. A few stepover blowdowns. Muddy sections and rotting bog bridges in upper mile. Kenduskeag needs brushing out from just before Shelburne Moriah to Shelburne Trail, especially top ~1/3 mile leaving summit. Shelburne Trail had lots of branch debris and quite a few blowdowns, only a couple requiring walking around. We flicked lots of branches off trail and unclogged some waterbars. |

Lots of water on Moriah Brook Trail, some on Shelburne Trail, but not much on ridge. |

A few black flies were out near Wild River mid-afternoon. They kept trying to fly into my ears, so I covered each ear with a hobblebush leaf held in place by sunglasses. It worked! |

This is a spectacular loop! Had not done it in 10+ years so much of it felt new. Surprised to see our first lady slippers of the season--2 just west of (closed) Moriah Brook Bridge and 8 more a couple miles up MBT!
Need to pay close attention in a couple of spots on MBT, very few blazes (in Wilderness), but trail is easy to follow. Be sure to stay on bog bridges--or what remains of them--on MBT and Kenduskeag, or else you may sink in up to your knees in places as evidenced by my pole plants! Only a couple ice chunks remaining up high, easy to avoid.
Shelburne Moriah, a NH 100 highest peak, is the seldom climbed gem of the Carter-Moriah Range! We saw absolutely no one on this 15+ mile loop today! Great 360 views, especially up Wild River Valley! Lots of ledges and high-boggy areas, similar to Mahoosucs.
