Comments
Comments: Great hike but was amazed to see no one else on trail. One other car was in the lot when I came back but otherwise it was complete solitude. The conditions were very varied. MICROspikes on for most of trail as most of trail is a monorail of ice that is easy to grip but patchy trail that was either completely dry or muddy. Also a lot of open rock that I took microspikes off for (hoping not to ruin them too quickly!) and then had to promptly put back on as soon as I got to the ice again. Upper region of Blueberry Ledge Trail has some significant climbing over wet and slippery ice. I did use my crampons for this section and was glad to have them. Weather stayed fair all day. Not many great sources of water until you get to the part of Dicey's Mill Trail leading up to summit of Passaconaway. Rollins Trail had a few icy areas as well that I used MICROspikes for and hung on trees to get through. The final portion of hike down Dicey's Mill was uneventful and was Spring conditions halfway down so took of all traction and barebooted it down rest of way as sun came out. 9:30 a.m to 5:30 pm to do the entire 12.3 mile loop with some time for lunch and coffee at the ledges near Whiteface summit.
