Did this one with Monica and the Random Group of Hikers. Nineteen Mile Brook Trail is a sheet of ice from side to side most of the way from the parking lot to the hut. The weather was warm so the top layer of the ice was a bit soft so spikes were all we needed. In colder temperatures the ice may be a bit harder and you might want more than spikes (at least you'll want sharp ones). I (and two others) used snowshoes from the hut until most of the way down the ski trail. There wasn't soft snow but the trail is full of postboles so the shoes provided a level surface and heel lifts. Some of the steeper sections were icy but I easily handled them while wearing them. |
