Comments
Comments: Turned out to be one of those days where you find yourself wishing you had something that was back in your car... in this case, snowshoes. Note to self: don't overestimate the effect rain can have on snowpack! Nancy Pond Trail was easy to hike on in spikes, but turning onto the old Mt. Bemis Trail, the base was less firm, and the snow depths increased the higher I climbed. Turned around just short of the meadow, in deep drifts, after I'd lost the trail and started whacking. Hiked back down to the trail proper, then continued up to the foot of the cascade, which was partially frozen. Blowing snow in the air all day, cold temps, and freight trains roaring above and in the trees at times. It might have beaten me back this time, but I've got your number Mt. Bemis.
