Comments
Comments: Welcome sunny, brisk day, plenty of sunshine. About 1/2 way up S limb, ice and ~2" snow covered much of the trail until open 'backbone' on N limb. Open steeper ledges had much of area covered with verglass ice due to recent thaw-->freeze cycles; this required minimum of microspikes. Still we found it necessary to stick to edges of slabs to avoid real potential for long slides. Trailfinding a challenge with blazes snow covered by 2" +/- most of the way. 22F start at trailhead; colder with stiff wind (~30+) on summits (forgot Kestrel!)preventing a longer stay.
Nota Bene: do Not go up slab ledges without at least microspikes until/unless ice is melted.
Big credits to Ken "Scrambler" K on tricky hike ~6 months after hip replacement!!
A fine day and experience for all.
