| Comments: |
19 Mile Brook Trail has easily avoidable patches of ice/frozen mud between the trailhead and Carter Dome Trail junction. Between Carter Dome and Wildcat Ridge junctions, there is quite of a bit of ice, definitely traction worthy and makes travel much quicker than hopping from rock to rock or doing some light bushwhacking. There still is enough rock and bare ground to make the choice of wearing traction questionable unless you don't care about dulling your spikes.
Wildcat Ridge Trail pretty much ice free until the last .2 to .3 before the summit of Wildcat A. There is quite a bit of ice up there, plus ice under a dusting of snow; traction definitely useful. We stopped to put on traction about the same time the person before us did (we never did see this person, might have been the same one who spotted a bike?). Up on the ridge itself, the trail was a mix of ice and bare ground, with one significant ice flow section on the descent to the col between C and D.
The ski area was making snow on the upper portion of Polecat, but the middle and lower portions were pretty much still bare, except for the very bottom where they have the lift running and a few trails open for skiing/riding. |
