Large pullover alongside 113A for the Cabin Trail, room for 8+ cars if parked perpendicular to the road. Nice size lot for the Flat Mountain Pond Trail off Whiteface Intervale Road. The entire length of 113A has been recently re-paved, wahoo!!! |

The crossing on the Flat Mountain Pond Trail wasn't marked (the trail appears to continue up the bank quite a ways, you are supposed to cross near the old bridge footing), we needed to go a few yards downstream but were able to rock-hop across. No other crossings posed an issue. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Limbed a few multi-limb monsters blocking the trail down low (as I recall they were all on the McCrillis Trail, one or two may have been on the Flat Mountain Pond Trail). Some large trunks remain as simple step-overs. More remain but the trail is discernible and passable. A few blowdowns on the remainder of the route, none of any consequence except on the Cabin Trail. There is a massive, multi-tree mess about halfway along its length that has a short flagged route around it. It looks like given the wide open woods there that just detouring around will be the new trail instead of expending the significant effort needed to clean the blowdowns up (makes sense). |

The several significantly tricky scrambles down the Walden Trail (especially to Paugus Pass) would be mighty tough for a canine friend. They might be able to detour around through the woods though. There is also a decent ledge scramble on the upper part of the McCrillis Trail, but it is slightly easier than the ones on the Blueberry Ledge Trail. |

A great day of red-lining through the Sandwich Range Wilderness with Theresa. While longer, the McCrillis Trail was a nice change-up from the usual Blueberry Ledge Trail - very lightly traveled, slightly obscure down low, and all to ourselves. Nothing special about it, but not a bad trail either. Steep for the second half though. Ran into a few people across the Rollins Trail and especially on Dicey's Mill Trail up to the summit of Passaconaway. We also finally checked out the allegedly still-remaining latrine at the old Camp Rich site - yep, there it is, a box seat in the woods above the clearing. The tiny cairn on the summit was missing, but there is the tree someone carved an "X" into a few years ago... Back down Dicey's Mill, we took the East Loop, entire Walden Trail, and a short bit of the Lawrence Trail to access the Cabin Trail. The WMG isn't kidding about some of the steep, tricky scrambles descending the Walden Trail! Some of those took some serious gymnastics, but we made it down in one piece. The Cabin Trail, after the initial sidehilly section (which looks very prone to washing away but luckily it sees little traffic), was a nice, easy descent back to the waiting car. Nice weather (but too warm for us!), good company, and lots of new redlines for both of us. Simply a great day in the woods! |
