| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of room to start the day; pretty full on my return. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Ellis River a rock hop although a miss would be a soaker. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
All blowdowns removed. Lots of mud pits but none appeared to be deep boot suckers. A stone has been installed early on where the ledge had become very narrow. I remember it had scared some people into turning around the last time I was on the trail. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
The mighty tough little dog found it pretty easy going, his dark fur hiding his muddy paws. Ellis R crossing not a problem but he's used to it. Many might not like it. Not a lot of water on the trail other than the mud and muddy seeps so I'd bring extra for the dog. There's a fair amount of ledge and rock on a slope so if puppy's paw pads are soft keep an eye on them. |

| Bugs: |
A few black flies were around us at A when we stopped for lunch, and unfortunately two got enough blood from me to make a few thousand more. But that was it. The deerflies must have all left to be in the woods near me. |

| Comments: |
The meteorologists need a firmware upgrade to their Ouija Board. Once again no sun as forecast; we hiked in the clouds from E to A and back to just before D before they lifted enough to see the Presidentials through them, although we got just a peak of things at A through fantastic swirling clouds. A fair number of people on the trail but many came from the hut on their way out; for the most part Pepper hiked free. We met a nice group of 7 hiking the whole Carter-Wildcat ridge; 3 guys and 4 dogs who all looked to be having a good time. Even though it was a long drive for a cloud hike with some mud to boot, any day that the two of us can get out together on the trails is a great day. |
