Finally got the opportunity to ski the snowfields on South Baldface. We managed to exploit the favorable weather window, and skinned up under bright sunny skies, and mild temperatures. Baldface Knob Trail was too steep in its upper part for skinning, so we booted up until the grade moderated, the rest was accomplished on skis. Good turns were had on the southern snowfields (by Nate), and Mike and I hit the east facing snowfields (on either side of the trail). Clouds rolled in and it spit rain/snow briefly while we were at the Baldface Knob/Baldface Circle junction. Skied down next to the ledges the trail comes up, before we hit thicker woods, and survival skied down to the shelter. The trail out was pretty fun, though tight in spots. Thanks to Mike and Nate for getting in a great tour under the wire! |
