Parking/Access Road Notes: No issues.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings have open water but levels are low. Some ice here and there but generally bare rocks are available to make the crossings quite safe.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns on the upper section of Pine Bend Brook tr. but they are easy "walk-overs". With more snow thy will be mostly hidden. A couple of blowdowns on Kate Sleeper in the section that was severely damaged by Sandy plus one just after the Downes Brook tr. jct. At the moment they are fairly easy "duck-unders" but with a bit more snow they are going to be more awkward.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Open water in all crossings but with low water dogs will not really get wet. There are significant icy sections on the Dicey's Mill and Walden trails around the Passaconaway summit and on the Square Ledge tr. on both sides of square ledge. The south-easterly side of Square ledge is by far the worst and will be very difficult for most dogs. Steve's dog Roxie was on one of her first winter-hikes. She did extremely well and was fine all the way. She needed a bit of help on the sections around Square Ledge but was terrific on the rest.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: FOUND: Black hat (EMS) on the Oliverian tr. approx. 1.5 miles from the TH. Please e-mail me if it is yours.

Comments
Comments: Great day in the woods with Steve C and Roxie as the cold start gradually got replaced with warmer weather during the day.

We had expected icy conditions from South Tripyramid to the Kate Sleeper jct. but there is no ice on this section at the moment - making that descent relatively straight forward. Also, the Pine Bend Brook tr. has hardly any ice on the last section to the North Tripyramid summit.

We bare-booted comfortably to the Middle Tripyramid summit but used microspikes for the rest of the hike.
