Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Simple rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Signage was very good. Looks like blowdowns happen as quickly as they are remedied - there were a few, but there were some that had recently been taken care of. Nice bog boards in some areas, perhaps more could be placed in other mucky areas as well. Trail very easy to follow, nicely blazed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Did not see any. Ledges on Baldface may be difficult for some. And bring water for the higher elevations.
Bugs
Bugs: Some mosquitoes, not too bad.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A strap from someone's pack, I left it hanging on the sign where the trail splits for North and South Baldface. What little common sense I had, see comment section.

Comments
Comments: We had a few days, we were thinking of Great Gulf and its various enticements, but my back went out a couple weeks ago. So why did I think the Baldies would be a good choice? God only knows. Sometimes things look easier on paper than they really are....
Beautiful day, storms predicted later, but if we were too slow there were escape options. We checked out the beautiful Emerald Pool and then headed up for South Baldface. Nice path, alternating between climbing and flat sections, but my usual slow self was even slower (maybe since I've taken it easy the past two weeks). I actually took a short snooze at the shelter. We headed up, and as much as I normally enjoy ledge hikes, this was difficult (perhaps my range of motion was a little more restricted than usual). Also, I spent a lot of time at the "Produce Section," and I did leave some blues for the next hikers! And I slowly watched the nice pretty day deteriorate into a possibly dangerous situation. Once past the more difficult ledges it was much easier and Prema (who had the map) said we were close to the Baldface Knob Trail. The col there was sheltered. We were looking at South Baldface an easy half mile away, but I said "No way!" Those thunderstorms could return, too risky. So we went to the Knob, enjoyed watching the great weather changes - fog vs sun, and we took Slippery Brook down. What a beautiful trail! I would like to check out the other end of it in the future, but I think the road has been closed since Irene (we used to go to Mountain Pond there).

Also, I met two gentlemen on their way down a few minutes before the storm hit. I hope they made it o.k. on the ledges!
