Comments
Comments: A lot has changed since I climbed Sugarloaf on 11/11/12, I Bryan the way and I was sure that there were once many red blazes and that the trail was in excellent shape--not anymore. I did a good job of missing a turn due to multiple blowdowns and a drainage area that looked like a trail and after tracing our way back we found the correct route. We followed the footbed all the way to the cliff and I noticed that the bolts I had seen before placed by rock climbers had been removed and at the famous site of the difficult climb there was no evidence to be found of the ladders, hand rails and a knotted rope that I had used before to be found anywhere. There were a few green ribbons along the path below the ledge and at the crux there was a lousy thin rope hanging down from above but only a fool would trust or try to use it. A skilled rockclimber with a full rack will need to lead this portion now. So we slabbed around the major cliff to the north and down and lost most of our elevation. The summit was fabulous, perfect weather and found Hiker Ed's mini canister not signed since Dec 12. We had enjoyed many happy moose paths and the open ledges of the Hogsback (found jar), views from the Hogsback open ledges of Sugarloaf and Black and way beyond were grand. Jeffers was super buggyland and signed canister. Blueberry Mountain's summit well deserves to be on 52 with a View list! Total milage according to my tracks was 8.5 miles.
