Date of Hike: Sunday, June 1, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at main Loon lot - it's off-season, plenty of room.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Swampy area in the col on the bushwhack. Care needed to not disappear in it. Otherwise no crossings, and minimal mud.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Someone should really brush out the bushwhack ;)
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not sure what the regs are at Loon re: dogs on ski trails in summer. Also, pretty thick bushwhack.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies swarming on the slopes in the AM, not really a bother in the PM heading down (perhaps we were moving too fast?).
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I lost a ziplock baggie with a map and notes containing info for PAtN via Gale River Rd. A branch must have stolen it out of my pocket, I think near the summit. If you find it, feel free to make use of the info :)

Comments
Comments: Well, we got this one done, but it wasn't really enjoyable. Easy enough trip up the usual access road to Camp III, and then the Lower Walking Boss to the Upper Walking Boss to the out-of-bounds herd path just below the chair lift. Swung off the herd path after ~.6mi, and whacked roughly SE to the end of the ridge, then swung more Easterly up to the summit. Largely crappy stick woods, with tons of blowdowns. Picked up a few brief herd paths nearing the summit, the final summit area had a large blowdown field surrounding it that we were able to skirt to the South. A couple of entries from the last 2 weeks, and nothing since November before that.

Heading back, we followed herd paths here and there, though none lasted long. We inadvertently ended up just a little (~50ft vertical tops) South of the ridge, and getting back up to the main ridge was extremely thick. We did avoid the swamp in the main col though... Coming down the ski slopes we took some blue squares from the chairlift, which eventually dumped us back on the Upper Walking Boss a bit above Camp III. All in all, not one I feel like revisiting. Not the worst 'whack I've been on, but it's up there. Maybe we just missed a magic line. 3hr 5min each way. Thanks to Greg YEAH! for coming along, good to see you again, we both earned this one and now don't have to ever go back.
