Comments
Comments: Glad to be back hiking with my favorite hiking parter Waynald. Started with bare ground in Gorham. We found increasing ice patches and monorail as we climbed up to Moriah. We put spikes on after summiting Moriah and never took them off. We were lucky that the snow held off until as we descended the Moriah Ridge. Trail conditions got softer from Stony Brook to Imp trails but the monorail was still stable. I was quite slow going up North Carter and Wayne must have been distracted as he took a direct shot from an under to the head.
We got quite wet but still even did a quick detour to get Leyte along the way. Reminded me of why I don't like bushwhacks. There were several icy patches coming down South Carter that were hidden under the snow. We met our first other hikers going up Carter Dome - 3 lovely young ladies out doing a tour of carter dome. We hit more ice patches on the way down Carter Dome.
We met James one of the care takers at Carter Notch. He was busy with the 36 hikers that he had coming in. The hut was a great place to get something to eat and get changed. We managed to get over Wildcat A and to D. Monorail continued to be stable with almost no post holing.
Great day out despite constant wet snow. Thanks to Wayne for letting me keep up.
