Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Baldface, South Baldface, Baldface Knob, NH
Trails
Trails: Baldface Circle Trail, Baldface Knob Trail, Slippery Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, April 6, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking on this maintained parking lot. However, 113 is in a bad shape; leave yourself enough time to slow down and go around bumps and postholes.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Many small crossings are still bridged and/or hoppable but snow bridges will be gone in no time. Use caution and pock the bridges prior to stepping. With more melt, some crossings may create challenge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blowdowns on the way but either crossable could be walked around. One partially downed tree on Baldface Circle Trail somewhere within 1-1.5 mi from the trailhead is leaning against another - close to the trail but not right next to it. The only potential problem is the domino effect.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn't bring mine, but it's a great dog route.
Bugs
Bugs: Saw one mosquito!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost this time! :)

Comments
Comments: It was a spectacular day to visit the Baldfaces! Windy but bright & sunny, not a cloud during the first half of the hike, then the lenticular clouds galore. Trail breaking and postholing in snowshoes, especially on the Slippery Brook Trail, were becoming tiring towards the end of the day, but the 360o views, artsy clouds and our dynamic and laughing group made the hike fun. Expecting to see bare summits, I was surprised to still find so much snow above the tree line. The snow, mostly deep and soft, but crusty in some areas, showed no signs of the monorail but had lots of moose, thigh-high postholes. Hiked this time with Denise, Paul-Willliam, Coral, June, and Yukti.
