Beautiful, cold day on the ridge, although with very little wind. Used snow shoes the entire way although 19 MBT could easily be bare booted to the Wildcat ridge junction as its a packed highway. Trail heading up the steeps to Wildcat A was rougher, having been broken out in deep snow on Sunday. Not a smooth trail with snow shoe tracks/steps in many places but overall, and under the circumstances, quite nice. Ridge top trail was well packed and smooth although a bit narrow. No trail ice anywhere and steeps along the ridge were easily navigated. Polecat was groomed and great snow shoeing
Was picked up on route 16 in 5 minutes and taken back to the trail head. Nice hiking with Tim L. from the trail head to Carter Dome trail where we went our separate ways... |
