Comments
Comments: NMB Trail well packed from hut traffic, we probably passed 20 people this morning - snowshoes or micros worked fine. Snowshoes a must on WRT - there was a visible trench but only a few faint tracks from a few days ago - we broke through the crust and up to 10-12" underneath at times, but other times it was only a few inches where it was more hard packed and wind blown. The slide on the ascent to A and a few areas shortly after had no visible trench, so we broke it out and took our time - the side slope was very tricky at times both going up and down. Saw one person on A who had come up from the ski area, followed his tracks over the ridge - the old trench was very visible the whole way and trail breaking was never really worse than the uphill section. Someone barebooted (a skier?) from the top of D peak about a quarter of a mile down the trail, so that is still the most uneven section even with decent snowshoe traffic today. Besides our group of three we saw four other people on the ridge, all in snowshoes (yay!!), so there's a pretty well broken out and easy to follow route now. More sun than expected but a bit chillier than forecasted, but we were treated to wonderful views on the ridge with the deep snow pack. Challenging hike but as always a great day with Tim, Ali and Hannah.
