Comments
Comments: trail was unbroken from the most recent snowfall with about a 1 inch crust over a few inches of powder up to the crossing of nancy brook. old snowshoe trough was quite evident. shortly after the crossing the trail had clearly received a lot less travel and we were breaking over a foot of new snow up to the ravine where is really got interesting with deep blown in snow up through the switchbacks. continued deeper snow up to the ponds where we cut right across norcross to the outlet and start of the herd path up nancy. 1-2 feet of constant breaking from there up past the slide where we started getting into drifted snow of 3+ feet. we lost the herd path a bit above the slide, same place i lost it last year, but continued up and to our right through heavily drifted spruce eventually picking up the herd path and following it without problem up to the ridge. very slow going on the steeps that were heavily loaded with snow. from there to the summit we were on and off the path. another party of 3 came through behind our group of 4, one of them made the summit, so the whole route is tracked out pretty well at this point.

we wore snowshoes the whole hike.

a beautiful, but tough day hiking up to nancy. absolutely gorgeous at the ponds. we knew it would be tough going up the peak and it was. the snow was really loaded in up there. the going was very slow up to the top. congratulations to steve on number 99. it was hard earned.
