A couple very easy rock hops on the Doan Trail |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The Doan Trail is lightly used and lightly maintained: a little damp in spots; a few blowdowns here and there; and easy on the rocks and roots. It's easy to follow, and well-enoguh blazed in blue at every junction. The AT, on the other hand, is a very pleasant walk-in-the-park along and Smarts' northern ridge. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Great walk for dogs- my two Jack Russels love it and there's plenty f water on the way up. |

| Comments: |
The former Mousley Brook Trail (and once part of the AT) is now named after Daniel Doan, a Dartmouth alum who wrote "Fifty Hikes in the White Mountains" and "Fifty More Hikes in NH" as we'll as several others. One of my favorites is "Amos Jackman," and it's east to imagine this being the valley he's writing about. I just wish I could find a couple of those trout-filled pools! |
