Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A lot of water on the trail in places. The crossing on Greeley Ponds Trail nearest the Kanc requires care.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in good shape except for the mud and water, which is to be expected after all the rain and snow. One large blowdown on the Greeley Ponds Trail near the upper pond.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Many dogs on the trails today. I don't know how some of them get up and down the East Osceola portion of the Mt. Osceola trail.
Bugs
Bugs: No problem with bugs.

Comments
Comments: Our intent was to climb the "Dogleg Slide", which I've been itching to do since reading about it in Steve Smith's mountainwandering.com blog. We drove to the Hancock lookout on the Kanc to assess what we were getting into, and saw that the slide was covered with snow. Although we knew that it would melt through the day, we felt that it would be too dangerous to try to climb, so we went to Plan B: a traverse of the Osceolas from Tripoli Road to the Kanc. Disappointed that we couldn't do the slide, but it was a nice hike nonetheless. Beautiful views of the snow-capped Presidentials and Lafayette from Osceola, and a nice stop at Upper Greeley Pond on the way out.
