| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A 1200 foot section of Kate Sleeper Trail between Downes Brook and East Sleeper is completely obliterated due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. Groups of trees, in bundles of 3, 4, or 5, have toppled across the trail in every which way. The trail is impassable and unsafe. Short ten foot sections of trail can be found, but they quickly disappear into a tangled mess of downed trees. It is possible to bushwhack 200 feet to the north side of the trail to bypass the downed trees. Without good map and compass skills, you could easily get lost. Damage is so extensive that Kate Sleeper might need to be rerouted. The safest and best approach to the Sleeper peaks is from the Tripyramid side. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Even Griz the Dog had a hard time scrambling over or under the downed trees. |
