After crossing the stream, we went away from the stream after a bit to get into the hardwoods. At the point where there is a small knoll, we headed up the ridge that leads to the subsidiary summit of West Scar Ridge. We did wander a bit near the bottom. Where the ridge narrowed, there seemed to be a herd path, which we tried to stay on but lost occasionally due to blowdowns. The ridge gets very narrow at one point, seems like it is about four feet wide. There are also some nice views from the ridge which I did not expect. The ridge lead us to the summit canister on the little hump to the east of the actual high point on the summit. The canister is not easy to get at but it can be done. There is a small piece of flagging hanging near the canister. The snow varied from dry to sticky, adding weight to the snowshoes. If anyone attempts to follow our tracks, they will not have too much snow in the trees land on them as we had most of it land on us. |
