Some blowdowns associated with Sandy, and possibly some new erosion, but I haven't been on many of these sections of trail... so it's hard to tell. In order (as far as I can remember): Lonesome Lake Trail below Hi-Cannon is good, maybe some new erosion towards the lot. Hi-Cannon below Dodge Cut-off has one big uprooted blowdown that took out the trail for about 6 feet leaving a big hole. A couple step overs as well. Above Dodge Cut-off the trail is very brushed in, and there are several blowdowns making for tricky duck unders and climb overs. Kinsman Ridge up to Cannon is fine, so is Rim Trail. Kinsman Ridge down to Coppermine Col and up to the Cannonball has a couple of step overs and that's about it... just steep. Lonesome Lake down to the lake had a few step overs up high, and some more involved ones down low that will probably require some work. Around Lonesome Lake had some bog bridging that was a bit loose, and one hanging blowdown making it tricky to get around. Dodge Cut-off in great shape. |

Shameless redlining day, picking off Northeast Cannonball for the NEHH. The only sections I'd been on before was the lower portion of Lonesome Lake and the Rim Trail on Cannon. No views from the summit, but some nice rime on the tower, and some local views under the clouds. Temps were comfortable, and there wasn't much wind, though there was intermittant snow and rain after about 1pm. No frozen ground or ice as of yet. |
