Headed out for #98 today on Elephant. Trodden logging road with a cairn or 2 got us started to around 3100 feet where you come to kind of a Y . We followed a fainter path that kept going straight that eventually faded into a very thick spruce band. Pushed through that and came to "swamp/logging road" which we skirted to the right east side. This got us into an area with some herd path and some open woods. After pushing though another spruce band we contoured to the East and came to some more open woods which we followed up eventually hitting a herd path which took us to the summit. On descent we tracked more to the west on a decent line and skirted the wet area on the west..relocated a herd path below a small ledgy area and dropped easily back down to the west side of the Y intersection mentioned earlier. Much better visibility and footing over there which amounts to pretty much a bee line to the peak. Fall foliage peaking in this area today...gorgeous. Thanks Bryan for a good day out |
