Lost and Found
Lost and Found:
Comments: I was able to hike to Southwest Peak with bare boots (no traction) as there was only spotty snow & frozen slush with most of the distance as bare ground and ledges.
I put on the gaiters and microspikes at the Southwest Peak lookout as the ridge had snow with lots of boot holes and slippery snow. The hard packed snow was quickly deteriorating. The maximum depth of the snow was about a foot and a half with thinner cover in places. This stretch of trail was an arduous slog. Snowshoes would be cumbersome on this very beat up snow surface.
Most of the trail leading up the south side of the Main Peak was bare ground or spotty frozen slush.
There was a wet area between Tower Peak and the Main Peak. The snow boots and gaiters kept my feet dry.
Could only see some White Mountains (Kearsarge North, Doublehead, and Moat) due to the clouds.
Only one other hiker on the Southwest Ridge Trail and another on the Ledge Trail.
