Today I did an out-and-back hike on the Fly Rod Crosby Trail from the Reeds Mills Trailhead to the logging road where the trail turns away from Hardy Stream, near the junction with the Berry Picker's Trail. This lightly used and remote trail largely follows the banks of Orbeton and Hardy Streams, which are two scenic mountain streams. The trail passes a variety of points of interest, including a few scenic viewpoints. Although generally well marked, the trail is overgrown in some areas, especially where it passes along sections of old logging skid roads. The best section is between the Hardy Stream Overlook and Potato Hill Road. It's also worth noting that the mileage listed in the Maine Mountain Guide is noticeably shorter than the actual trail segments. |
