Accessed the trailhead from the Weld side of Byron road. This excellent dirt road was clear of trees and snow. It is closed to winter maintenance from Nov 1 to May 1. Some significant rutting about 0.6 miles from the trailhead. Slow going and careful route selection kept me from bottoming out. Could not access the parking area due to large washout from the brook in front of the trailhead. Roadside firm enough to hold my SUV without sinking, so i parked away from the washout. A sedan had made it through the ruts without issue. It parked just behind me to avoid the washout as well. |

All were manageable with exposed rocks. Falls from the tarn outlet stupendous today. |

Brook trail clear. Parker Ridge has two new blow downs on trail. Little Jack Connector has a large blow down that can be walked under. Not much damage at all from the rain storm. Mostly numerous debris flows. |

Dog did great. The wet ledges and brook crossings were no issue for him. |

Yesterday's floods kept me near home today. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to Byron Rd with all the road closures, but I was able to do so. Super surprised to see Byron Rd in such good shape. Still packed an axe and saw in the trunk.
All trails well blazed in blue, well maintained. Carins intact and visible on the open rock ridge. One 10 foot spot of snow just below the tarn outlet on Brook Trail. It was firm enough for me to cross it without postholing. No traction needed. The remainder of the trails are completely snow free. Lots of running water on all trails due to rains. Come prepared to get feet wet.
A few hunks of ice remain in the tarn. It was not flooded at all. |
