Comments
Comments: Great day in Baxter State Park. I saw a large bull moose about a mile up the Chimney Pond Trail. He was in the woods walking slowly in a line right towards me. I quickly retreated down the trail a ways, then he crossed the trail above me and disappeared into the woods on the other side. I took Saddle Trail up from Chimney Pond because my wife was hiking with me and she was hoping to reach Baxter Peak, and the Saddle Trail is supposed to be the "easiest" way up. She didn't like the boulder climb near the top though, so she headed back down. She wouldn't have liked the slide either. Hamlin Peak was NE 4K #66 for me, and I decided to visit Baxter Peak too since I was so close, even though clouds were covering the summit when I started up. It cleared up by the time I reached the top and the views were stunning.
