| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Success Pond Road is fine. I have no real frame of reference since I tried the road once last year and turned around due to my old Civic not being up to the task. This year road seems a bit better, certainly in a Subaru. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Postholes, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All streams elevated due to the quick melting during the heat wave, but all crossings were done relatively easily. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No issues, the maintenance done by Yukon on the Goose Eye Trail was particularly appreciated, thank you! |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
No dogs. No humans either today. |
|
| Bugs: |
Flying around, but thankfully they seemed as disinterested in me as I was in them. |

I had been saving this loop for a beautiful day, and it was today. Stunning views from the summit of this very interesting mountain. Trails really fun...until the Mahoosuc between peaks where winter is still stubborn. I listed traction, as I had spikes with me and didn't use them, but it would depend on each individual's comfort as to whether to don them or not. Because I did the loop clockwise, my ascents were in the north-exposure icy/snowy sections, which in my mind, is easier than descending them. This is a mostly moot point since I can't imagine much will be left after the next few days. |
