I met a maintainer on the trail before the campsite who was very nice and had been working on clearing some blowdowns. There aren't Neary as many as in years past.No snow until after the last stream crossing. I postholed a few times in about 2 feet of soft snow. There was some ice in steep places. Snow got deeper and the trail gets steep. Because of the snow the trail slanted steeply to the right and while my dog could walk on top of it I know I could not and I had no interest in trying because I was in shorts and would have undoubtedly fallen and slid into the trees. I could see beyond that there was a lot more snow. I decided it was best to play it safe and turn around. I did not make it to the steep rock face. With this warm up, it won't be long before the snow is gone. |
