Comments
Comments: It was the first time up Borestone Mountain for us today! It's a fun and relatively straightforward hike with a few moderately steep sections. There are also a few short scrambles near the summit, which add in a little extra variety.

There are three side trails off of the main trails which we took. The first was to Greenwood Overlook, which was a nice, but relatively restricted viewpoint south. The best side trail was the Peregrine Ridge Trail, which led to the top of a large cliff overlooking Sunrise, Midday, and Sunset Ponds. The third spur trail was the Fox Pen Loop which passed some interesting wetlands, a viewpoint, and remains of the old fox pens.

There are outstanding views from both summits, but the east summit is higher and has slightly better views. We were lucky to reach the summit right as a very long train was passing over the Onawa Trestle. The views were amazing in all directions today, and we spent quite a while on the rocks at the summit.

As expected, the trails were very busy today. Although there were a few small snow and ice patches left, they were very small and will likely be gone in a few days. Despite the heavily used trail, Borestone is a spectacular mountain and is easily one of the best peaks under 2,000'.
