Up Starr and Down Orange, 5.4 miles round trip. Trails were in terrific condition all nicely cleared only a few leaves left. Mostly moderate trails with two steep sections on Starr to make things a bit interesting. Miles of ledges with open views. Hadn't been on Starr in years, I remember when the trail took the road up all the way including a half mile stretch of just terrible mud and water, re-route now avoids this section of the road. Trails dry with just a few spots of mud and water in the usual stretch past the Starr/Orange junction where it follows the old trail for a few tenths of a mile. Just amazing views today in all directions with bluebird skies, nice temps and just as light breeze up top. Snow still visible on Old Speck, Baldplates, Saddleback and the horn, and the presidentials peaking out above closer summits. Always a worthwhile hike. |
