5 of us went to Elephant Mtn today. Conditions were good, the cold after the warm consolidated the snow with just a few inches of light fluffy snow on top so we were able to stay on top of the crust most of the time. This is my 3rd successful summit of Elephant, 1st in winter and my favorite so far. We approached from a different side, taking the 1st left on Elephant Mtn Rd and staying on Road longer than taking a sharp left to continue in open fields and than up, where we did have to break trail a little more, but nothing too hard. Startled a moose on the way. We only had to push through a few thick areas near the top. Was cold so we didn't stay long, back tracked the way we came. 13 left for my Winter HH, it was Nick's 99/100 NEHH. |
