really fun trail, up Eyebrow and then over to Old Speck and back down the regular trail. Eyebrow has cable over its steepest section which is helpful. we added crampons when we got to the traverse over the top of the frozen waterfall. there are also rungs to hold there and on the next steep section. might be doable in microspikes. Too rocky for snowshoes. above the junction with old speck trail, microspikes would be fine. Snow is hardpacked with ice showing through in places. we kept our crampons on. the fire tower is open. our wet gloves froze to the rungs of the tower ladder, we added shells so we wouldn't keep sticking! spectacular views up top. |
