Water Crossing Notes: Bridge across Sandy River. No other significant crossings
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in generally good condition. One tree fall across trail uphill from the Sandy River crossing. Tree crosses path at about three feet. Best to walk through the woods around tree. Bog bridges near Mud Pond are in various states of disrepair but can be used with care. Many bog bridges wobble due to the construction technique used. The wobbling bridges caused no problems.

Comments
Comments: Hiked the Appalachian Trail from route 4 to The Horn. The saddle between Saddleback Mountain and the Horn is deep but broad. Many ledges on this route. The exposed ledges were dry permitting safe footing. Some ledges in the woods were wet so they required careful footing especially on descent. Three Ponds on this route (Ethel, Mud, and Eddy). The trail crosses two gravel roads (no motorized traffic today). Piazza Rock area has shelter, tent sites, Piazza Rock, Boulder Caves, and toilet (bring your on toilet paper). There is about 3 miles of ridge walking that allow for great views including many other ME 4Ks and surrounding lakes.
Two other approaches are from the Saddleback ski area lodge and from the Berry Picker Trail. Met nobody that hiked the latter trail today.
Lots of AT hikers (both directions) and some day hikers.
