Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Very easy… all rock hops
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Overall in great shape… lower sections of Carlo Col trail and Goose eye trail brushy and grassy in sections but expected for a genuine wilderness trail… I loved it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a coyote on the success pond road… trotted towards me then went into the woods. After I went by it came back out and continued on its way….
Bugs
Bugs: Surprisingly not an issue… bugs flying around at or near summits but didn’t land on me and nothing biting.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day for this loop hike… starts off on an overgrown logging road but I didn’t pick up any ticks, my pants are treated with permethrin. 0.7 of a mile up Carlo col shoots into the woods… stream crossings were easy. Made it to the Mahoosuc trail and took a right to climb up for a Quick view ( pretty steep & bouldery climb. Then back down to the Col and up to Mt. Carlo… nice summit with some nice views. Then it goes down pretty steep to another col before heading up to Goose eye. Once I broke above tree line it’s panoramic views… beautiful scenery with thrushes and white throated sparrows singing away…. Iron rungs & ladder fun to climb going up Goose eye. Views on Goose eye were phenomenal… white puffy clouds, blue sky and the air was dry…. Could see Franconia ridge and Carrabassett mountains… visibility was for endless miles. Going down the Goose eye trail is very steep. When you come out to a overgrown logging road down low, take a left and follow that for a little ways until a sign sends you back into the woods again on your right. Follow that to the logging road you start on and take a right back to parking area. Very quiet on the AT. Saw no northbound hikers. I’m assuming they all stayed in Gorham because of the tropical storm so my loop hike was ahead of them. I saw 9 people all day, mostly day hikers, I believe I saw 3 southbounders. Gorgeous day hike ✌🏻
