Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: 0 cars at 4:45am when I started, 10 when I finished at 11:45am. A clean toilet there, but it does lack a door. A picnic table here as well, great for a post-hike feast, but whether you are feasting on snacks or the bugs are feasting on you is for you to find out.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing too high but I was happy to have my trekking poles to keep my feet dry for a few of the crossings.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns along Marston Trail before the turn for North Brother is taken. One blowdown basically at the turn.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Probably not a great idea to go up/down the Coe slide with dogs (or kids or some full-grown humans).
Bugs: A ravenous horde saw me off and return in the parking lot but were curiously absent for most of the rest of the hike.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None.
Comments: Made a rookie mistake a hiked N Brother first and then wound up going down Coe but I was weighing the cost of projected thunderstorms arriving at the time I anticipated being on the exposed face of N Brother or being down lower on Coe, and that's what won. Great day to be out, I did beat the weather but later hikers might not have done so. Trail in decent shape, definitely a few times headed up to N Brother where I ruminated on whether the water or the trail came first (hiking chicken-and-egg, y'know). Bushwhack to Fort Mountain was easy enough to find and stick to, both going there and coming back. Definitely some wet sections of the entire loop today with some mud splashing, as to be expected this time of year. Be warned, the views from this hike will have you planning more hikes.
