We decided to take a chance on today's weather, and it paid off! This was our first time up Moxie Bald, and it did not disappoint! Both peaks had excellent views, but North Peak is alpine in nature and is especially beautiful.
The road (AT Road) to the trailhead was rough and wet in spots, but not an issue for good clearance and AWD. The trails were wet and muddy in places, but were very manageable and not as wet as we expected. It was extremely windy, so we did not longer on the summits for as long as usual, but the trails offered many vistas along the way. We also walked to Bald Mountain Brook near the lean-to just south of where the AT crosses the road, where there is an interesting waterfall into a narrow gorge.
We found that Moxie Bald isn't as steep as many of the other peaks in the area and it is easily one of my favorite peaks under 3,000'! |
