| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
A couple of ruts near beginning of forest road that are easily avoided. Otherwise, the road and parking area are fine. I sawed a birch branch that protruded in to the roadway and moved the yellow caution tape to another branch that is at the edge of the roadway. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Small brooks easily crossed on rocks |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Sawed many trees/branches obstructing trail outside of wilderness area. No blazes on Caribou Trail although pathway is obvious. Some mud spots may be eliminated with drainage outlets. Some arrow signs on old logging road section of Caribou Trail are helpful. Arrow sign at sharp bend on Caribou Trail is missing (was there last year). |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs. |
|
| Bugs: |
Some black flies that were not biting. House flies buzzing around at summit. Some butterflies. |

| Comments: |
Saw no other hikers today. No need for snowshoes or traction. Bare booted the entire hike. A few small patches of snow on trail. Last year at this same time I used snowshoes on this same hike.
There are a few small cairns or infrequent yellow blazes on the ledges from the summit to the south knob.
The views from the summit are exceptional. One can view the Carter, Presidential, Kilkenny, and Mahoosuc ranges. Also, good views of Evans Notch, Kezar Lake, and Long Lake. |
