Comments
Comments: This one is an adventure! Many of the hiking notes online from 2014 were before recent slashing, so be prepared for slow going.
I'll repeat a few things from other notes that are worth repeating. The road is an unmaintained logging road. Because of this I ended up parking about a mile short of the recommended parking area despite decent clearance in an SUV. A truck after me did the same.
A GPS is needed - not recommended - needed for this trip. The faint herd path comes and goes. There is somewhere around .5 - .75 miles of slashed trees from logging operations. Think 2-3 inch diameter trees stacked up to 4 feet high and no alternative than slowly scrambling over them. The rest of the bushwhack was very wet. Even on a clear day I got drenched from wet ground and dewey plants.
The swamp was wet but passable. Also, very very pretty! After the herd path was much easier to follow and the summit was a relief to reach.
This hike is entirely worth doing, but is a bushwhack in every sense of the word.
