I chose this hike because I knew the water would be flowing and the many cascades and waterfalls didn’t disappoint. Red trilliums all over the place first 0.3 miles in. On & off snow started around 2300 ft... from there to the Royce connector trail junction was the worst with collapsing snow and deep post hiking. The 0.5 to the south east ledges was a mix of everything, very wet but doable... I decided to try the herd path to the radio repeater.... I didn’t make it, I ran into postholing up to my hip and one very protective spruce grouse who was flying by me into trees and on the ground in front of me. Once I saw his female partner..... I got it lol. I’m in their habitat and don’t want to bother them so I turned around. 4000 footers were in the clouds so I’ll go back another day. I met hikers on the way down who were turning back because they either were not properly dressed for those conditions or the postholing was to much for them. I wore my winter waterproof hiking boots and I was glad I did... my boots were soaked but my feet were dry. Still a lot of snow in places higher up. Still going to be at least a week or more for summer gear. ✌🻠|
