| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I didn’t see any signed spaces for hikers it there was plenty of room to the left of the store. Room for at least a half dozen cars. I was the only one there. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail is really just a bunch of herd paths to the top; some better travelled than others. I don’t think I followed the books directions for the loop as while I did end up following a path west behind the Dollar General, I definitely did not descend on the east side of the mountain. More on that below. I think the main trail may have had some white blazes on it?? No blowdowns. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
None seen but they should be fine on this short trail. The ledges at the very end are steep. |
|
| Bugs: |
None that I recall although it was windy up top. There were definitely bugs (black flies) out earlier in the day when I was hiking Second Hill by Mount Agamenticus. |

I had time for one more little hike before it got dark Sunday evening. Luckily it was only a few minutes from Menotomy Rd and Mt Tom where I’d just hiked. This is a very short hike to an outstanding view. Visibility was decent but not at its best which meant I didn’t have views to Washington of to all the Sandwich Range peaks but still a great view. Of course l loved the peak identifier on top ;)
The “trail†is really just a bunch of herd paths to the top. I realizing I hadn’t followed the one described in the guidebook to the top as I never passed by Molly Lockett’s Cave. The route I followed, which was very well established, was west of the main trail to Jockey Cap shown on Gaia. I went straight where it shows that trail going right. On my way down, I followed the main trail as shown on Gaia. This was after trying the trail to the right at the base of the ledges. This was more of a herd path and not nearly as well established as the other trails I was on so I figured it couldn’t have been what the guidebook was referring to. Plus, it was only partway down the ledge. There was another trail I followed that bore right where the trail I came up bore left. I figured this must be it but alas it just continued heading north presumably towards one of the roads to the north. At that point it was getting dark and I was done so I just headed down making sure to pass the caves on my way out. I did pass behind the Dollar General though as if described you would on the east part of the loop. Maybe I’ll come back and try it again as this little Hill certainly has a great view :)
Trails were totally dry. No one else out. |
