Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: As of this writing Caribou Valley Road is open and plowed maybe 2/3 to the gate. There is a company running chipping operations up there which explains why. We talked to one of the truck drivers and he said it was open to the public, just park out of their way. Maybe dig yourself a parking space off the side of the road where it stops being plowed. Not thinking to check on the status of CVR first :-( we bushwhacked in from Sugarloaf Golf Course (easy peasy parking there I think it's overflow for Sugarloaf) only to pop out on a plowed road. Noooo! Don't make the same mistake we did! Check out CVR first. Just watch for 18-wheelers bombing down the road not expecting you to be there.

Comments
Comments: The whack from the golf course was pretty standard. Not bad, not easy, just a clomp through the woods.

Nora and I packed out both Crockers, maybe 6-8" of new snow. Snowshoes with excellent traction are a must. We kept the snowshoes on the entire way, but crampons on the wicked steep sections above the campsite cutoff will make your life significantly easier not to mention a little safer (esp. on the down) especially now that it's packed out a bit. We were going to whack over to Redington, but we were too late and too tired for that. So we went back down the AT, which _was_ really slick and horrifying on the steep exposed sections. Wind erased our tracks on some parts, so you'll slog through some drifts, but mostly you should be good at least through the end of this week.
