Comments
Comments: Broke 6”+ fresh snow from 2mi onward. On steep terrain above 3000ft some light powder covered ice-encrusted rocks. *Mountaineering* snowshoes are a must— you’ll need some agressive spikes on those shoes in places! Above 3000ft I bushwhacked around some brown ice flows on the main trail. Very little traffic has gone between East & West baldpate— seemed like a light monorail, but I easily was breaking 12” of snow in areas. Between East and West peaks has a lot of exposed rock (between deep drift areas) which is rough on the snowshoes.

Once the ledges started on W. Baldpate, I changed into microspikes— the ledges has light ice, some snow and exposed rock, which the spikes handled well. Much more ice and this could be very sketchy.

Gorgeous & windblown at the summit!
