| Comments: |
We walked the road (about a mile) to the parking area and kiosk for the Fire Warden's trail. Once on the trail it was easy going, but mixed conditions. Snowshoes or microspikes were tough on the mud, rocks, but you needed something to grip. On the steep section up to the col, we used snowshoes going up, but some of us used microspikes coming down. Crampons would have been better coming down as it was soft and greasy. Avery was snow, rocks, ice and wicked windy. West Peak was like summertime compared to Avery - snowshoes all the way and moderate wind. Boreal chickadees and Gray jays visited us at the col. |
