Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: This is tricky. We started hiking where the Logan Brook Rd. leaves the Frenchtown Rd. You are not supposed to park on the Frenchtown Rd. and the Logan Brook Rd. is unplowed. There are no pull-outs to park at. We were lucky to find someone with a camp nearby. They had space for us to park 1 car - and gave us permission. We used that and shuttled the other cars out to a plowed area at the head of the Frenchtown Rd. The Frenchtown Rd. is plowed, but packed snow and ice.

Comments
Comments: If you want to get a winter summit of #4, now is the time to do it. Seven people from the Bangor Outdoor Club broke out the trail. No sign of it having been broken out previously this winter. First 2.4 miles was on unplowed road. Snowmobile traffic had packed it down. The 1.8 miles on trail were a different story. Lots of loose powder. There was a thin crust a few inches under the powder, but it would rarely hold you up. Under that was more powder, much more. Once we got to the steeper section progress slowed. We stayed to the old trail (the old fire wardens trail) for much of the steeper section. Eventually the drifts were just too deep, waist deep in places. So we switched to the newer trail which switchbacks across the the old fire wardens trail. All of us were glad for a little wind packed snow near the summit. I suspect this trail does not get broken out often during the winter, so if you want to do it, now is the time. A little over 8 miles round trip.
